Nolvadex (Tamoxifen)

General points

Nolvadex is proved to be effective in treating what is called metastatic breast cancer that has already been spread to other parts of the patient's body. It can also help treat breast cancer in some patients after radiation therapy or surgery and help decrease the chance of developing breast cancer within high-risk groups of patients.

Nolvadex is able to help with breast cancer because it interferes with the levels and effects of estrogen hormone in the breast tissue. Because of the way Nolvadex works it is more useful for people with estrogen receptor positive tumors. This medication can be a great alternative instead of oophorectomy and ovarian irradiation.

Because Nolvadex interferes with estrogen levels it is also used as a steroid in treating a totally different type of tumor in the mammary gland, called Gynocomastia in bodybuilders.

Precautions

The typically recommended dosage of Nolvadex is 20 to 40 mg a day in a form of a tablet. Patients who take this drug should not take antidepressants, anticoagulants and some other medications during Nolvadex treatment. That's why it is essential to consult your doctor before starting treatment.

Pregnant women should be careful if they did decide to take Nolvadex as it may bare a very serious potential harm to the fetus. However, in some cases the benefits of the Nolvadex may be greater that the potential danger to the unborn baby.

There is no evidence up to this day to suggest that the drug is passed into breast milk, but because it is dangerous to the baby, it is best not to take Nolvadex while breastfeeding.

Nolvadex can be responsible for a number of various side effects that typically include hot flashes, leg cramps, nausea, headache or hair thinning. If the medication is taken by a man it can decrease sexual ability and interest.

Nolvadex helps fight male infertility

There are many different possible causes for infertility in men and many people suffer from it today. However, if it is correctly diagnosed male infertility can be easily treated and a man may be able to have children at some point.

The most common causes of infertility are not efficient sperm production, hormonal dysfunction, infections that may compromise sperm and sperm antibodies.

The interesting fact is that Nolvadex can be used for treating male infertility as it stimulates male hormone release and testosterone production. Because Nolvadex is an antiestrogen drug it can be very helpful in dealing with testosterone deficiency and help treat infertility in men due to many of the hormone problems.

Even though Nolvadex is commonly known as a medication to help treat cancer in women, men can also benefit from it greatly, and just in treating breast cancer in men but in a way that has only been discovered not that long ago - it can help men to have children.
